Chitosan Auxiliary for Fabric Premodification in Dyeing

Process stage: After desizing/scouring, before formal dyeing. Cationic pre-treatment for grey fabric.

Functions

Chitosan is a natural cationic biopolymer. After fabric treatment, plenty of amino positive charges are introduced onto fiber surfaces. Cellulose fibers (cotton/linen) carry negative charges. After modification with chitosan, fiber surface charge is reversed. Anionic reactive dyes & direct dyes can be adsorbed via static attraction, greatly improving dye uptake, enabling low-salt / salt-free dyeing. It cuts massive inorganic salt used in conventional dyeing and reduces salinity of wastewater.

It also optimizes level dyeing performance, prevents color unevenness, and improves final color fastness, especially for natural plant dyeing.

Dosage & Application Process

1. Prepare working solution: Dissolve chitosan in 1% acetic acid solution to make 0.5~1.0 g/L chitosan liquor.

2. Method: Two-dip two-nip, pick-up rate:70%~85%.

3. Temp & time: Dip at 50~60℃ for 30 min; dry at 80~90℃, cure at 120~130℃ for 2~3 min.

4. Recommended dosage (owf, on weight of fabric): 0.5%~1%.

Applicable textiles

Pure cotton, cotton-linen blend, viscose, Tencel and other cellulosic fabrics.

Highlights

Replaces traditional chemical cationic modifiers; reduces sodium sulphate consumption, lowers salt load of dye-house wastewater; fully biodegradable and compliant with EU environmental regulations.
