Chitosanoligosaccharides (Aminooligosaccharins) for Sugarcane: Functions and Application Dosage

Chitosanoligosaccharides, also known as aminooligosaccharins, are oligosaccharides extracted from crustaceans such as shrimp and crab shells. Featuring good water solubility, high biological activity, safety and environmental friendliness, they are widely used as plant growth regulators and biostimulants in agriculture.

Functions on Sugarcane

1. Enhanced disease resistance

Chitosanoligosaccharides can induce plants to activate their innate immune system, inhibiting a variety of fungal, bacterial, viral and nematode diseases. Sugarcane is susceptible to fusarium wilt, anthracnose, rootknot nematode and other diseases. Application of chitosanoligosaccharides improves sugarcane disease resistance and reduces the use of chemical pesticides.

2. Promoted root development

Chitosanoligosaccharides stimulate plants to produce auxins and gibberellins, promoting root growth. Although sugarcane develops a robust root system overall, its seedling roots are weak and vulnerable to diseases. Chitosanoligosaccharides facilitate early and abundant root formation, enhancing nutrient uptake capacity.

3. Improved stress tolerance

Chitosanoligosaccharides enhance plant tolerance to cold, heat, salinealkali stress. In sugarcane cultivation, it helps crops cope with high temperature, drought or low temperature frost damage, maintaining photosynthetic efficiency and yield.

4. Optimized soil microecology

Chitosanoligosaccharides regulate soil microbial community structure, boost the growth of beneficial microorganisms, and suppress harmful pathogens and nematodes, creating a favorable environment for sugarcane growth.

5. Yield increase and quality improvement

By boosting earlystage growth and photosynthetic efficiency, chitosanoligosaccharides increase sugarcane yield and sucrose accumulation.

Application Recommendations and Dosage

1. Application timing: Foliar spraying or root irrigation is recommended at the seedling stage, jointing stage, or before disease occurrence for optimal effects.

2. Concentration and application method: Watersoluble powder or aqueous solution at a concentration of 0.05%0.2% is recommended, applicable for both foliar spray and root drenching.

3. Safety and synergism: It can be mixed with biopesticides or fungicides to reduce the dosage of chemical agents.

Notes

As a green and efficient biostimulant, chitosan oligosaccharides show great potential in disease control, root promotion, stress resistance, yield increase and quality improvement in sugarcane production. It is especially suitable for diseaseprone areas or environments under abiotic stress. Smallscale field trials are advised before largescale promotion, in combination with local pest/disease conditions and soil characteristics.
