Chitosan in sludge conditioning water treatment

 

#Chitosan can be applied to excesssludge conditioning in municipal wastewater plants. It treats sludge instead of raw #wastewater.

 

#Municipal wastewater plants generate massive excess sludge. Traditional conditioning processes heavily adopt iron and aluminum salts, resulting in high sludge output and expensive subsequent disposal. As a natural #biopolymer, chitosan conditions sludge floc structure and enhances #dewatering performance. It cuts consumption of inorganic conditioning agents and reduces total sludge production. In addition, chitosan is biodegradable without metal accumulation in sludge, which benefits subsequent sludge resource utilization such as land application and composting.


Usage and Dosage: Calculated on drysludgesolid weight basis, chitosan dosing ratio: 0.5%2% of dry sludge. Prepare stock solution in advance, add it into sludge conditioning tank and mix thoroughly before filterpress dewatering. It can partially replace #PAM and iron/aluminum salts. Sludge dewatering lab tests are needed to confirm optimal ratio.
