chitosan as decolorant dosage

Release:2026.04.16

Usage and Dosage of #Chitosan as #Decolorant in #Textile #Dyeing Industry

Chitosan, a natural biodegradable #polymer, acts as an eco-friendly decolorant for printing and dyeing wastewater via coagulation, adsorption and chelation to remove dissolved dyes and chromatic pollutants.

Usage:

Adjust the pH of dye wastewater to 6.0–8.0 for optimal performance. Dissolve chitosan evenly beforehand. Add the solution into wastewater under moderate stirring. Keep rapid stirring for 5–10 minutes, then slow stirring for 15–25 minutes to complete flocculation. Let the mixture stand for sedimentation, then separate the clear water from sludge. It applies to reactive dyes, acid dyes and common textile wastewater decolorization.

Dosage:

The routine dosage ranges from 50–150 mg/L for normal chroma wastewater. For high-concentration dye effluent, the dosage can be increased to 150–300 mg/L. Proper dosage effectively lowers chroma, reduces COD, and avoids excess residue. Adjust the amount according to wastewater color intensity and organic content.
